Things to Do in Shimla & Chail

When you book a Shimla Chail taxi tour from Chandigarh, you open the door to two of Himachal’s most charming hill destinations - each with its own history, culture, and beauty. Here’s what makes them truly special:

  • 1. Explore Shimla’s Colonial Charm. Once the summer capital of British India, Shimla is steeped in history and old-world elegance. Begin with the Mall Road, lined with colonial-era buildings, cozy cafés, and local shops. Visit Christ Church, built in 1857, which is one of the oldest churches in North India. A stroll through The Ridge offers breathtaking mountain views while echoing tales of the British Raj.
  • 2. Take a Walk Through Heritage at Viceregal Lodge. Also known as Rashtrapati Niwas, the Viceregal Lodge was the residence of British Viceroys. Surrounded by manicured gardens, it’s a beautiful reminder of Shimla’s political and cultural importance during the colonial era.
  • 3. Experience the Calm of Chail Palace. Chail, a quieter alternative to Shimla, is famous for the majestic Chail Palace, built by the Maharaja of Patiala in the 19th century. The palace exudes royal grandeur and is set amidst deodar and pine forests, making it a must-visit for history lovers.
  • 4. Visit the Highest Cricket Ground in the World. Sports enthusiasts will love seeing the Chail Cricket Ground, built in 1893 by Maharaja Bhupinder Singh. At 2,444 meters, it’s the highest cricket ground in the world, surrounded by forests and spectacular views.
  • 5. Adventure & Nature Walks. For nature lovers, both Shimla and Chail offer scenic trails through pine and cedar forests. Go for a trek to Kali Ka Tibba Temple in Chail, where the panoramic Himalayan views are simply unforgettable. In Shimla, opt for short hikes around Jakhoo Hill, home to the giant Hanuman statue.
  • 6. Shopping & Local Flavors. Don’t miss picking up Himachali handicrafts, woolens, and souvenirs at Lakkar Bazaar in Shimla. Chail offers a quieter shopping experience, but the local food - from steaming momos to Himachali thalis - adds an authentic touch to your journey.

Together, Shimla and Chail offer a beautiful mix of colonial history, royal heritage, natural serenity, and adventure. A taxi tour gives you the freedom to explore at your own pace, ensuring every stop becomes a story worth remembering.
